Identity Policing
(verb)
A form of gatekeeping that is based on someone artificially restricting who can and cannot identify in a certain way. Transmedicalism is a form of identity policing of the trans community based on one’s medical transition goals. Identity policing often happens in conversations around umbrella terms that some people would like to restrict to a single usage— such as bisexuality including trans people, transgender including non-binary people, and lesbian including women who are attracted to women but not exclusively.
e.g. Luisa found a new support group after the last group she attended ended up identity policing lesbianism.
