Imposter Syndrome

Imposter Syndrome

(noun)

Imposter syndrome is when someone feels like they are faking being a member of a certain group because of certain, sometimes arbitrary, differences in their experiences as opposed to what they consider to be the normative experience for that group. It’s a common occurrence amongst trans people because the dominant narratives around transgender experiences only show a sliver of the actual lived experiences of trans people.

e.g. Treena told Ryan about her imposter syndrome and Ryan reassured her that she could be trans regardless of whether she had physically transitioned or not.
