Internalization
(noun | to internalize, verb)
Internalization is the process by which we incorporate, usually negative, narratives from the dominant culture into our own personal beliefs. This is why there are some trans people who hold transphobic beliefs, some women are misogynist, etc. Internalization, as a completely esoteric process, is difficult to unlearn, but doing so is often started by identifying those internalized beliefs, looking at why they are damaging, and considering why we would put value into them.
e.g. Gracie knew she had to work on the misogyny she had internalized as a child raised in a hyper-conservative environment.
