Mental Health Professional (MHP)
(noun)
An umbrella term covering a variety of medical and medical-adjacent professionals including but not limited to: psychologists, counselors, clinicians, and therapists, clinical social workers, psychiatrists, psychiatric or mental health nurse practitioners, primary care physicians, family nurse practitioners, and psychiatric pharmacists. As it relates to the trans community, MHP usually refers to someone with at least a Master’s degree who is an acceptable professional according to insurance agencies regarding physical transition-related letters of approval.
e.g. Sahara had to find a MHP to write his top surgery letter.
