Transmisogynoir

Transmisogynoir

(noun)

Transmisogynoir is an attempt at better articulating the particular type of oppression that exists at the intersection between transphobia, misogyny, and anti-Black racism. It is a way of talking about the specific types of harassment, violence, and discrimination experienced by Black trans women and those associated with them. In order to understand, we have to recognize the compounding effect of different oppressions. Black trans women are oppressed in some very specific ways that are not purely transphobia or racism. It’s a combined effect where it is impossible to differentiate what is racism or misogyny or transphobia.

e.g. The article about the trans community was called out as promoting transmisogynoir due to the author’s negative attitudes toward Black trans women that were expressed clearly within the article.
